Benefits of joining our lab:
In addition to close mentorship on your undergraduate project or graduate thesis, you will have access to the lab’s resources and equipment (see the Equipment and Resources tabs for details).
All positions are carried out within the Department of Artificial Intelligence, Chang Gung University (CGU), under the supervision of Prof. Renata Wong. When sending your inquiry, please attach your application materials.
Am I a good fit?
As a multidisciplinary group, we value curiosity, self-driven learning, proactive initiative, good communication skills, and a solid background in relevant subject areas. If you identify with these qualities, you may be a good fit for us.
Prospective postdocs
We are not offering postdoctoral positions at this time.
Prospective PhD students
If you are interested in pursuing a PhD in one of our research areas, please contact us to inquire about potential thesis supervision.
If you are a foreign student and you fit exceptionally well into a current project at the lab, we may be able to offer you the CGU scholarship: https://www.cgu.edu.tw/recruit_intl/Contents?nodeId=17604. The part of the stipend that is provided by the advisor will be your RA salary.
Prospective master’s students
If you are interested in joining the lab, you are welcome to apply to the CGU master’s program and indicate your interest in working with Prof Wong as your thesis advisor.
If you are a foreign student, we may be able to offer you the supervisor-sponsored CGU scholarship (scheme 2) if you are accepted: https://www.cgu.edu.tw/recruit_intl/Contents?nodeId=17605. The part of the stipend that is provided by the advisor will be your RA salary.
Undergraduate students (capstone)
Bachelor’s students at Chang Gung University interested in executing their capstone project in one of the lab’s research areas are encouraged to form a team of four and consult with us about potential research topics for their project. We can supervise capstone projects in either quantum computing (including quantum machine learning) or artificial intelligence.
For quantum computing projects, you are strongly encouraged to take Introduction to Quantum Computing in the fall semester. The course is open to both senior students and master’s students. You can also start learning quantum computing before taking the course. Please inquire with us about the learning materials if needed. Without an understanding of at least the basics of quantum computing you will not be able to carry out a project in the field.
Internships
From time to time we offer internship opportunities through the IIPP and TEEP programs.
We currently offer 1 internship opportunity through the Taiwan Experience Education Program (TEEP), an international internship program administered by the Ministry of Education. See https://teep.studyintaiwan.org/program/1501 for details.
Please note that both IIPP and TEEP internships are funded by their respective agencies (MOE or NSTC). The lab will not provide additional financial support. You will be responsible for covering your own flight and living expenses. The university offers accommodation at a cost of TWD 520 per week per bed.
Prospective teaching assistants
Teaching assistant positions are sometimes available; please see the “Teaching” tab at https://renatawong.github.io/teaching/ for current opportunities and details. Please note that serving as a teaching assistant does not automatically imply membership in the lab.
Remote positions
Thank you for your interest in our lab. At present, we do not offer paid remote positions. Opportunities within the lab are primarily limited to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the Department of Artificial Intelligence at Chang Gung University. In exceptional cases, graduate students from other departments within Taiwan may be considered.
We do, however, welcome remote participants to join as unpaid members. Individuals who wish to collaborate are encouraged to propose a project for joint research with our lab.
Applicants from ‘designated countries’
Please note that the lab is unable to provide letters of guarantee for applicants from countries classified as “designated countries” under Taiwan’s immigration rules. For details see https://www.boca.gov.tw/cp-159-249-4162c-2.html.
